Seal Strength Tester

Seal strength testing evaluates the mechanical strength of the seal, assuring proper bonding to maintain package integrity throughout the life of the package. Here we address two basic typle of seal strength testing: tensile strength testing (ASTM F88) and burst or crepp testing (ASTM F1140 & ASTM F2054)

Seal Strength Testing
Test conditions based on ASTM F88

One-inch wide samples are cut perpendicular to the seal and pulled apart at a constant speed (usually 12 inches/minute) when mounted in the grippers of the instrument. The force required to separate the two sealed substrates is measured and reported as x lbs/inch width.

Burst and Creep Testing
Test conditions based on ASTM F1140, F2054

LSSD-01 Leak and Seal Strength Tester is professionally applicable to the quantitative determination of seal performance, seal quality, burst pressure, compression resistance, torsion force and joint/disengaging force of flexible packages, aseptic packages, various plastic pilfer-proof closures, flexible tubes, caps and other materials.

  • Burst Test: Fill the package with air until it bursts and measuring the terminal pressure. The method can be used with the package unrestrained or within restraining plastes to simulate packages stressed in various situations.
  • Creep Test: Inflate the package to a constant pressure and then check if the pressure in the package can hold a specific time. the suggested pressure in ASTM F1140 is about 80% of burst pressure.
